"Magical, strange and at times uncomfortable, the 'environmental portraits' of Gabriel Jones, outside the confines of a studio setting, in an environment of natural and artificial light, try to explore 'the in-between two gestures', this untouchable fraction of a second where the bodies of his models aren’t protected anymore by their own conscience. The entire body of his photographic work relies on this will to render tangible what is left unsaid by the corporal language, by isolating extremely short and precise sequences, which gives him the possibility to unveil extreme emotions (fear, awe, terror…) hidden behind the body, and by the same token, of a situation, a context, a state, in which the posture collapses, when the sight looses its focus, when the pose disappears, losing control both on time and on our own image. These frozen images where we can find, without really knowing where they come from, also reveal themselves richer of a particular aura by the manipulations that are done during and after the shots. Perspectives, colors and textures serve to manifest these magical and worrying aspects of the reality which would remain untouchable or unseen and therefore, in a subtle manner, his representation acquires a new, enigmatic and enticing dimension, in the spirit of magical realism."
